Day 7 – Best sequel
We all know that most of the times the second book in a series isn’t as thrilling and action-packed as the others. For example, City of Ashes, the second book in the Mortal Instruments series, just wasn’t as good as City of Bones or any of the others, even though I still enjoyed it.
Here is a list of sequels I read this year that I think were just as good or better than the first book!
1. Crown of Midnight by Sarah J Maas
Even though I absolutely loved Throne of Glass, I think Crown of Midnight was more thrilling and action-packed. And this seems to be a constant in this series because each more is better than the previous one, with new amazing characters and stories being added and Queen of Shadows is +600 pages of pure epicness!
Throne of Glass – 5 stars
Crown of Midnight – 5 stars
2. The Heart of Betrayal by Mary E Pearson
Even though I enjoyed The Kiss of Deception, I found The Heart of Betrayal much better! The plot and the characters captivated me a lot more. I loved getting to know more about the Vendan costumes and the Song of Venda. I also loved Lia’s character development, she’s a really strong female lead, and I loved getting to know more about Kaden! And it left me aching for the final book!
The Kiss of Deception – 4 stars (review)
The Heart of Betrayal – 4.5 stars (review)
3. Sweet Peril by Wendy Higgins
Sweet Peril was definitely better than Sweet Evil. I really enjoyed the first book but I felt it lacked a bit of action and Anna was a bit too naive. But this all changes in Sweet Peril. Anna goes through big character development and she becomes a badass, Kaidan grows as well and the action finally starts to take place!
Sweet Evil – 4.5 stars
Sweet Peril – 5 stars
4. Onyx by Jennifer L Armentrout
I read Obsidian the week after classes ended. To be more exact it was on June 12th, because I read this book in 10 hours. And I did the same for the other 4 books plus the novella. I had a lot of free time and the story and characters were so addicted! Anyway, after reading the first book so fast I thought that wouldn’t happen with Onyx because it surprised me because the story got even more interesting!
Obsidian – 5 stars
Onyx – 5 stars
5. Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon
Outlander was simply brilliant in my opinion and Dragonfly in Amber was equally as great! I’m not exactly sure if it was better than the first book but it was definitely more emotional I think. I cried in both books but DiA broke my heart twice… And of course, you cannot ignore the historical details in Dragonfly in Amber.
Outlander – 5 stars (review)
Dragonfly in Amber – 5 stars (review)
I enjoyed Dragonfly in Amber so much better than Outlander! No contest in my mind. 🙂 I love this series. It’s giving me tons of ideas for new books to check out 🙂

I think I enjoyed DiA better but I can’t really say because I read Outlander after I watched the tv show… Idk really they are both amazing! I just started Voyager, have you read it? 🙂

I read Outlander before watching the show, so that probably does make a little difference. It’s all the establishing that seems to take longer in the book. By the time you hit the second one, it’s all familiar territory 🙂 Voyager is on my Christmas list. If I don’t get it, I’m picking it up in the New Year for sure 🙂 Are you enjoying it so far?

Yeah tbh I skimmed through the first 50 pages of Outlander once I realized I knew the things that were happening thanks to the tv show because it was taking too long for her to go back in time haha. I’ve only read the first chapter but so far it’s good haha kinda breaking my heart tho but oh well. I’m gonna read more in a couple minutes:) I hope you get it for Christmas! 🙂
