“Kill or be killed.”

The Fear Trials are a rite of passage in the Woodson family to prove one’s ability to survive in the dangerous Shallows. Koi passed it and now it is Meadow’s turn. She’ll have to complete a series of tests her father sets for her and if she wins, Meadow will be granted permission to travel through the Shallows alone and she’ll also win a special prize, her father’s dagger.

I really enjoyed The Fear Trials! It was filled with action and there’s an unexpected plot twist towards the end that made me keep scrolling the pages until the very end! I loved reading about Meadow discovering her inner strength and doing whatever is necessary for her family. I really like her character.

This obviously wasn’t has good has the first book, since it’s much shorter, but it was still really enjoyable for a novella ; ) I can’t wait to get my hands on book 2, The Death Code!
